20 Oct 2026, Cape Town - Private Dinner: Building Ecosystems and advancing innovation in Africa

dorp 20

Introduction: No institution, however well resourced, builds an ecosystem alone. Science, capital, policy and community each hold one piece of the picture, and rarely sit at the same table. This dinner exists to put those pieces together, for one evening, around one table in a magical and inspiring setting, in the Dorp Hotel.

Central question: What could we build together that none of us could build alone?

The approach follows from that question, and shows up in how the evening is designed, not just what is said on the night:

  • The journey starts at pick-up, not at the door. A social entrepreneur and storyteller open the evening in the car, so guests arrive already thinking in ecosystem terms rather than switching modes on arrival.
  • The format is a table, not a stage. Talking time is kept short and the running order is built around conversation, so the evening feels like a shared table rather than a series of talks or presentations.
  • Guests contribute, not just attend. The ecosystem word exercise and the icebreaker turn every guest into a small part of the evening’s content, before anyone has spoken from the front.
  • The place carries the theme. Bo-Kaap, the harvest table and live African music root “ecosystem” in a real place and a real community, rather than leaving it as an abstract idea.

This is a working dinner for a small circle of 30 leaders from philanthropy, investment, innovation, science, and entrepreneurship, with a shared interest in Africa. The dinner will be intimate and candid, built to surface what this room could do together that no single organisation in it could do alone.
